          A Galaxy consists of stars, a huge collection of gases, interstellar remnants, dust, dark matters etc. Galaxies are classified into a spiral, elliptical or irregular based on their formation.





The largest known galaxy ever discovered is IC 1101. It is a massive elliptical galaxy. It is at a distance of 1.045 billion light-years away from the Earth, and its diameter is 1.97million light year. It also consists of the largest known black hole known to man. Andromeda is the largest galaxy in the local group. It is also the closest to our Milkyway Galaxy.

4. IC 1101 is situated in the Cluster Abell 2029.





5. The Diameter of the IC1101 Galaxy is about 6 million light-years or about 60 times the size of our Galaxy Milky way.





6. The Galaxy is situated at the 1.045 billion light-years away from the earth. 





7. The diameter of the Galaxy is 1.97 million light-years. 





             Some brief about Milkyway galaxy





           Our Solar System resides in a galaxy called the Milkyway. The name of our galaxy actually describes its appearance when seen from Earth. A hazy band of light seen in the night sky formed from stars that can not be individually distinguished from each other.





The Milkyway galaxy is a large spiral galaxy. The Milkyway galaxy consists of about 100 billion stars one of which is our the Sun.
