Six Sigma Methodologies
DMAIC Methodology is used in Six Sigma
- Define
- Measure
- Analyse
- Improve
- Control
Define Phase
It involves identifying the quality characteristics that are critical to customers using SIPOC(Supplier, Input, Process, Output and Customer Analysis) and a voice of the customer analysis for preparing a business case for the project with a project objective.
The steps involved in this phase is :
- Identify the problem.
- Define requirements.
- Set Goal.
Measure phase
It involves operationally defining the CTQs, conducting studies of the validity of the measurements system of the CTQs, collecting baseline data for the CTQs establishing baseline capabilities:
- Validate Problem/ Process.
- Define Problem/ Goal.
- Measure key steps/ Inputs.
Analyse Phase
It Involves identifying input and process variables that affect each CTQ using process maps or flowcharts creating a cause and effect matrix to understand the relationships between the Xs and CTQs conduction an FMEA to identify critical Xs for each CTQ.
- Develop a casual hypothesis.
- Identify "Vital Few" root causes.
- Validate Hypothesis.
Improve Phase
This phase involves in designing appropriate experiments to understand the relationships between Xs that impact CTQs.
- Develop ideas to remove root causes.
- Test Solutions.
- Standardise Solutions/ Measure results.
Control Phase
Establish standard measures to maintain performance. Correct problems as needed.
